Dazi — Privacy Policy
1. Summary
- Dazi is an AI companion app. Dazi is for adults aged 18 and over.
- There is no Dazi account and no Dazi server. We do not operate a backend that stores your data.
- Your chats, memories and saved images are stored on your device.
- We do not sell your data, and the app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
- To generate replies and images, the app sends your messages to the AI service you choose (or to a default service we provide if you do not choose one). See Section 4.
2. Who we are
Dazi is published by Wei Wang (Ontario, Canada). For any privacy question, request or complaint, contact:
Email: dazi.app@hotmail.com
3. Age requirement — 18+
Dazi is intended for adults only and is not directed to children under 18. On first launch the app asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older. If you are under 18, you must not use the app.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, contact us and we will explain how to delete all locally stored data (see Section 9).
4. What leaves your device, and to whom
| Feature | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Chat replies | The text of your messages, relevant saved memories, and your companion's persona settings | The AI provider configured in Settings (OpenAI-compatible endpoint, e.g. Google Gemini, Groq, DeepSeek, OpenRouter) — or, if you have not configured one, a default AI provider we supply |
| Reading a photo you send | The photo you attach | Same AI provider as above |
| Generating a photo of your companion | A text prompt and a reference image of the companion character | The image provider configured in Settings (default: Google Gemini image models) |
| Nearby places (restaurants, fuel) | Your approximate location and a search phrase | Apple Maps, or Google Places if you add a Google Maps API key in Settings |
| Web lookups | A search phrase | Tavily or Brave, if you enable this feature |
Default AI provider
So the app works immediately after install, we provide a default AI service and API key. When the default is used, your messages are processed by that provider under our account rather than yours. We do not store your messages on any server of ours; they are transmitted to the provider to produce a reply and are not retained by us. If you prefer that your traffic use your own account only, add your own API key in Settings — the default is then bypassed.
What we never receive
We do not receive, and cannot read: your chat history, your memories, the photos you send or generate, your location, or the contents of any report you send us by email beyond what you choose to include.
5. What is stored on your device
- Settings (language, companion name and gender, feature toggles, provider/model choices) — in the app's local preferences.
- API keys you enter — in the iOS Keychain. They are never transmitted to us.
- Memories — facts the companion has learned about you, in a local file.
- Chats and generated images — in the app's private storage area.
- Photo library — only if you tap "Save to Photos"; otherwise nothing is written to your library.
6. iCloud
If you enable iCloud on your device, the app may store a copy of your memories in Apple's iCloud key-value storage so that your companion remembers you after reinstalling or switching devices. This data is held in your iCloud account under Apple's terms; we have no access to it. Chats and images are not synced.
7. Permissions the app may ask for
| Permission | Why | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Location (When in Use) | To find nearby restaurants and fuel stations | No — only for those features |
| Photos (add only) | To save a generated image to your photo library when you tap "Save to Photos" | No |
| Notifications | Daily check-ins and reminders you enable | No |
| Microphone / Speech | Voice input, if you enable voice features | No |
You can revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
8. What we do not do
- No user accounts, no sign-up, no email collection inside the app.
- No advertising, no ad SDKs, no third-party analytics SDKs.
- No tracking across other apps or websites; we do not use the Advertising Identifier.
- No selling or renting of personal information.
- No profiling for marketing.
9. Retention and deletion
Because there is no account, you are in full control:
- Delete individual items in the app (clear chat, delete a memory, remove a saved image).
- Delete everything on the device: deleting the app removes all locally stored chats, memories, images, settings and Keychain entries.
- iCloud copy: if you enabled iCloud, remove the app's data in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud, or contact us and we will tell you where to look.
- Email reports you send us are kept only as long as needed to act on them, then deleted.
10. Security
API keys are stored in the iOS Keychain. Network traffic to AI providers uses HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but note that we hold no server-side copy of your content to lose.
11. AI-generated content — important
- Do not rely on Dazi for decisions with legal, financial, medical or safety consequences.
- If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis helpline immediately. Dazi is not a crisis service and cannot contact anyone on your behalf.
- We apply automated filtering to reduce unsafe output, and requests for sexual, violent or otherwise restricted content are refused by design.
12. Reporting content
The app provides a Report action on AI replies and AI-generated images. Tapping it opens your own email app with a pre-filled message to dazi.app@hotmail.com. Nothing is sent automatically and no server is involved. We review reports and act on them, and we may use them to improve our filters.
13. Third-party services
Depending on the features you enable, your data may be processed by the following providers, each under its own privacy policy:
- Google (Gemini API) — ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms
- Groq — groq.com/privacy-policy
- DeepSeek — platform.deepseek.com
- OpenRouter — openrouter.ai/privacy
- Google Maps Platform — policies.google.com/privacy
- Tavily — tavily.com/privacy
- Brave Search — brave.com/privacy
- Apple (iCloud, Maps, Photos, notifications) — apple.com/legal/privacy
We do not control these providers and are not responsible for their practices; review their policies before enabling the relevant feature.
14. International users
Data may be processed in countries other than yours by the providers listed above. By using Dazi you consent to that transfer for the features you enable.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top will change, and material changes will be reflected in an app update. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
